Question: Need help w/ kitchen counters. can't sell house after 8 mos. what's the cheapest material to use for counters?

Please help me sell my house!!!! I don't want to spend too much $$ cause my house was built next to apt. bldgs and realtor says I won't get the money out of it that I spend. Still my kitchen needs updating and I can't afford cabinets. Any advice appreciated.

If you have wood cabinets, paint them a crisp white. You could get the pre-made laminate counters from lowes or home depot, they are very cheap, but I will tell you what will give your kitchen a wow factor is an undermounted sink. The corian or the generic brand korlan are cheapest 'custom' counter tops you can get, and you could get a sink incorporated right out of the material, or get one that mounts under it. We were able to fnd a cheap sink for $300, stainless steel.

Laminate is by far the cheapest. There are a lot more patterns and edge profiles available now than there used to be. A new sink and faucet will make a world of difference. Try a local countertop shop to compare to Lowe's or Home Depot. You may come out better. Depending on your skill level, check on installation so you don't have to worry about seams and edges. And as said above, paint can make a huge difference, too, especially when new cabinets aren't an option!
